We built a co-parenting app with a real free plan

Two of the largest co-parenting apps just ended their free tiers. We're going the other way. The essentials are free, today, and we'll keep them that way.

Quote card with the post's central promise: The essentials are free. More than essentials is how we make money.

Two of the largest co-parenting apps have ended their free plans in the last six months. AppClose closed its free tier in January. TalkingParents is doing the same on June 1.

A lot of families are looking for somewhere to go. We built just parent for them.

Here's what's in our free plan today, and what's in our paid plan, and how to decide which one is right for you.

What's free, the essentials

Sign up, no credit card. The essentials below are all available the moment you log in.

  • Structured messaging. Subject-line threads, an immutable record, notifications that work. 30 days of history on free.
  • A shared custody calendar. Both parents see the same view. Schedule events, school dates, and change requests up to 30 days ahead on free.
  • Expense logging and splits. Log expenses, attach receipts, apply your agreed split. Approve or decline. 30 days of history on free.
  • A handoff journal. A simple text box for the daily things you want the other parent to know. Both parents see it. 30 days of history on free.
  • The Cool-Off Button. A 24-hour pause when the conversation needs space. Available the moment you need it.
  • Our Agreement. Both parents shape the rules together. Shared policies take effect only when both have accepted.

The 30-day window covers the working memory of most co-parenting families. If you need more, the paid plan adds unlimited history and a longer calendar view.

What's paid, more than essential

Paid takes the essentials further: more history, more power, more tools for the families who want them.

  • Unlimited history. The full archive of messages, journal entries, and expenses beyond the 30-day window.
  • AI Calm Assist and AI draft helpers. Tone analysis and message rewriting that take de-escalation further than the Cool-Off Button alone.
  • Calendar integrations and family sharing. Sync to Google and Apple. Share calendar access with step-parents, grandparents, and anyone else in the kids' orbit.
  • Holiday and break automation. Templates and rotation logic that make annual planning faster.
  • Document storage. School records, medical files, custody paperwork in one place.
  • Court-grade legal export. PDFs that meet evidentiary standards, with chain-of-custody attestations.

Paid isn't for a different kind of family. It's for the same families who want more of what we already do well.

How we make money

Free is how we serve families who need the essentials of co-parenting: shared calendars, clean messages, expense tracking, a pause when things heat up, and an agreement they shape together. For many families, this is enough.

Paid is how we make money. It's also more of what we already do well. AI Calm Assist takes the de-escalation work further than the Cool-Off Button alone. Calendar integrations bring step-parents and grandparents into the same view. Unlimited history matters when the situation calls for it. These aren't features for a different kind of family. They're fuller-featured versions for any family that wants them.

We don't sell your data. We don't sell your kids' data. We don't run ads. The way we keep the lights on is paid subscriptions, full stop. That's the trade we're asking you to consider: if you want more than the essentials, your subscription is what funds the engineering and operations that keep the essentials free for everyone else.

How to switch

If you're coming from TalkingParents, AppClose, or another co-parenting app, the move is straightforward.

Sign up at justparent.io (no credit card). Both parents create accounts. You can upload your separation agreement if you have one, and we'll pre-fill your custody schedule, split, and key dates so setup takes minutes.

If you have message or expense history you want to bring over, export it from your current app before your access ends, and keep the file. We don't import other apps' formats yet, but a saved archive is what most lawyers and mediators ask for anyway.

We're here

Just parent is built for separated families who want to co-parent calmly, whether the situation is high-conflict or low-conflict. The free plan covers the essentials. The paid plan goes further, for families who want more.

We'd love for you to try it.

The essentials are free. More than the essentials is how we make money. Neither is your data.
